The Al Qaeda/Asimov's "Foundation" Connection
I think that Al Qaeda is a media construct. There's no real organization there and I don't think they refer to themselves as such. Even that guy in Uruk got fooled. Anyway, here's an article from the Fortean Times that sheds light on the connection between "Al Qaeda" and Isaac Asimov's novel.
"You can trust science fiction fans to have a reliably weird angle on world events. Could there be a secret meaning in the name of this century's most famous terrorist organization, Al-Qaeda? China MiƩville and Jack Womack, SF writers with Arabic-speaking friends, independently reported the possible connection with an SF saga by the late Isaac Asimov."

In a Jungian sense, there's always the possibility that both Asimov and Osama bin Goldstein were plugging into, nourished from, or enlightened by the collective unconscious.
